My blood pressure has been elevated because of my bad diet (overeating is my common response to anxiety). I have been on medication and improving my diet. However, if i am anxious my bp goes through the roof despite any meds I take or how i eat. I have only been aware of my bp for the past two years or so but I have had anxiety for 15 yrs. I can only imagine how my bp was for all those times I had prolonged anxiety episodes over the years. Now I'm older so this is more of a concern regarding more long term consequences that arise from the anxiety. I always used to think of it mostly as a mental issue but it is a very physical issue for me as well I realize. I have learned to calm my mind with self talk and relaxation but sometimes the physical symptoms are harder to control.
