About Me

Cheryle Gartley is the co-founder of Label Me Not, a new initiative created to focus attention on the negative impact caused by stigmatizing and labeling people. She is also the co-author of the first anti-stigma song, "I Am More", along with Gaia and Ed Tossing, an Emmy award winning husband and wife team. Ms. Gartley has spent the majority of her career as the President and Founder of The Simon Foundation for Continence whose mission is to bring information, educational materials and help to people with incontinence.

It is through her work on incontinence that she came to understand and address the need for Defeating Stigma in Healthcare, an initiative launched in 2003 by the Simon Foundation which led to Ms. Gartley's co-founding of Label Me Not along with Rick Rader, M.D., Editor in Chief of Exceptional Parent Magazine.

Ms. Gartley is the editor and co-author of the first book written for the layman on incontinence, Managing Incontinence: A Guide to Living with Loss of Bladder Control, published in three languages. Articles about The Simon Foundation and Cheryle's work have appeared in TIME Magazine, Good Housekeeping, and Ann Landers' column. She has published in the U.S., Japan, Germany, Australia, and the United Kingdom, including articles in journals such as The Lancet, Social Work Today, and the Journal of Urological Nursing.

Ms. Gartley has traveled extensively appearing on hundreds of radio and television shows both nationally and internationally, including Good Morning Australia (Sydney) and network news in Japan, Canada, and Germany. Ms. Gartley was selected as a panelist at the National Institutes of Health's Consensus Development Conference on Adult Urinary Incontinence; is the first non-urologist recipient of the American Urology Association's Brantley Scott Award; and is included in the Dallas Women's Museum. She has a BS in education and sociology and did her graduate work at the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business.
