I have generalized anxiety disorder, PTSD, chronic depression which is called Bipolar 2 and a host of other maladies related to these illnesses. I have been on disability (now 58) and I STRESS OUT EASILY. As life happened to me, I stressed greatly but tried so hard to look "normal" and continue living my life for my son and family. I really did not realize I WAS THE ONE WHO NEEDED HELP for years. My ability to cope in relationships and at work diminished as time AND STRESSORS continued. A series of events in 2001 knocked me to my knees and I went out on short and then long-term disability as a legal secretary; ultimately approved for disability with Medicare in 2002. FINALLY, late in life, I decided to see a psychiatrist and it helped me TREMENDOUSLY. The right meds make such a difference - not every med works for everyone - AND DOSING may mean you have to take a little dose of the med in the beginning, increasing dosing slowly to a little bit bigger dose, etc. I could NOT take the full dosage of anything in the beginning - just made me too ill. But over time, little by little increasing the right meds, I am finally feeling BETTER. I will never overcome the anxiety or the depression but feeling better is like coming in from a fog I have been in since my teens! And being able to rest when I need to rest is truly a God-send now that I am not working. God Bless my family and wonderful son for standing by me. I am SO grateful to have found this site! We NEVER get too old to learn something new!
