That was a really interesting article, Amy. Along the same line, I've been having stress sores that resemble shingles around my eyes. It's highly embarrassing and hard to deal with. I ended up visiting IPA (http://www.interventionalpainassociates.com/) here in Austin, TX and they were able to help with my pain management. I feel much stronger and happier now. Very happy and, obviously, I'd recommend them to anyone in the area.
thanks for the article! Based on your husband's experience and mine, maybe we should bill Medicare for causing shingles!!! I am searching online about stress triggers for shingles. I just got diagnosed today and have had chronic job stress the last 6 months. It is interesting as I've had other stresses in my life (money, being single, etc) but the job stress has been prolonged. My company was outsourced a few months ago, and I have a job w/the company that took over. Howeverd those that have taken over say they like my work BUT that I am not billing enough (I am in health care services for the elderly)...so last week I received a verbal warning due to this..if the amount I bill doesn't improve I will receive another written warning, and termination could possibly follow. It was hard as I do my best but it seems some of their expectations for billable time are unrealistic due to the many variables in the facility. Anyway, by the end of the week the discomfort started..and today I have this (mild) shingles..the body is a funny thing. Luckily for me the discomfort is mild enough that I will hopefully be able to work to tackle some of the stressors (including finally getting my resume done so I can find a new job).
My husband had shingles that started approximately 4 weeks ago. It started on his head and went in a line down the left side of his forehead and eyelid. He was hospitalized a total of six days two different times. He has had horrific head aches, altered mentl status, fatigue and severe vomiting and dizziness. He was treated with Valtrex and Prednisone as well as short term pain meds.
I found it interesting that not once did the Doctors mention stress as a trigger for the reactivation of shingles after childhood chickenpox Their pat answer was "we don't know why". After talking with other people and reading the internet I found out that stress can play an important trigger in shingles. I believe this since my husband and I have been stressed to the max by and adult child and his/her family living in our home and causing problems.
This has and continues to be an awful disease. The stress will leave or we will!
