Sleepless Nights and Anxiety

By Ellen Haas Wednesday, February 14, 2007

For so many peoplewho suffer from anxiety the nightime can be a difficult time. It is so common to wake up in the middle of the night terribly anxious and find it so difficult to get back to sleep. Donna Schwartz, MSW encourages her patients to write down in a journal, their anxious thoughts that keep them up. She says that the process of getting the thoughts out and recorded in your journal is a positive way to process them and reduce your stress. Once you have them on paper, concern and panic is lessened. If you keep a journal by your bedside, then it is easy and comfortable to relieve the tension you are feeling.
