I too have the same problem, it seemed to have started about 2 yrs ago when my wife and I were having marrital problems and we ended up seperated. I became very depressed and began experiencing anxiety, depression, acid reflux, trouble swallowing.
Since then my life has gotten better, my wife and I resolved our difficulties and got back together, but the GERD, and the trouble swallowing remained. I finally found a doctor who diagnosed Globus hystericus and Im just starting to take muscle relaxant. I pray that this will help me.
I have noticed that my symptoms are worse in the morning, or when I drink cold liquids. I feel a tightening sensation around my throat area and I am unable to swallow. Anyone else??
I also experience this...I have been to the doctors and gotten many tests done they say there is nothing in my throat. But i still have the sensation as if there is something there constantly. This has been going on for the past about 7 or 8 months, and i have lost tons of weight from it. Also I am scared of choking or dieing so i limit what i eat. I dont eat no breads or meats or fruits and very little of everything else...if u can figure out whats goin on please reply back to me..asap! Thank you

Sorry to hear that. I get it all the time anymore. You already know the term Globus Hystericus so I won't repeat that info but you can Google it and get lots of info. There are several articles on the net that says it's nothing to panic about and in many cases the symptoms go away after a Dr visit ruling out any thing really bad(like throat cancer)(unlikely). With me, when the symtoms start, I start fixating on them and they get worse, but I've noticed that when someone at work or home approaches me with something to distract my attention from the tightness, it seems to go away, at least for a little while. I think my problem is psyco-nutso and too much stress. Try some meditation or see if the symtoms disappear or diminish when you are distracted from thinking about it. Hope this helps some. Good luck.
I was diagnosed with globus about 18 years ago by my medical doctor. He referred me to a psychiatrist who put me on antidepressants, that didn't work for me. Then I went to a psycho therapist, he helped me to understand my breakdown and why I was having it. I found my globus difficult to control. My symptoms are the feeling of a lump in my throat, loss of my gag reflex, blurred vision and the feeling that an 8 pound shot-put is sitting on my chest (about 3 fingers down from my trachea). Acupressure on that spot helps, but what works best is acupuncture. In just a few acupuncture treatments my symptoms were gone for about 10 years, until recently. I've got it back!
I've got lots of anxiety in my life, but anxiety doesn't bring on my globus. My globus comes from sadness. The cure is to rid the cause... if it were only that simple. Attention diversion works, too.
