Just discovered the site here and I cant believe what I am reading...are we so far from the human values that we have to deal with our anxiety with apps ?
That cant be true or so I hope, it seem's that in our day in age we tend to ableviate communication on what it is suppose to be (looking at the person your speaking with in the eye's) now kids are texting a thousand miles a minute and the industrie is pushing it like its going out of style.
I have been dealing with anxiety for all my life trying to cope with it in many many way's, and I have come to the realization that its a part of me, and that is in no way a defeat on the contrary, now that I have accepted it...I dont battle it anymore.
I'm sorry but I just dont believe in the vitues of ''apps'' for anxiety.
Hi there
I absolutely hear what you are saying. Actually I have written about it..we now live in a society where we don't talk to one another....even bank tellers now are behind computer screens. We can check out at the supermarket without any human interaction. We text other people rather than talk to the person who is physically with us. As we are seemingly more "connected" we are also more alienated. I am older...I remember record players and card catalogs...and I also remember a world without all these gadgets.
However...the gadgets can actually be helpful. Nobody is saying (least of all me) that one can cure anxiety through apps. Nor am I saying to ditch your doctor, your friends, face to face interactions, etc. What I would say is that an app is an extra resource just like a book or a relaxation video or...data chart.
I am a life long anxiety sufferer and I need all the help I can get. When I put on one of the relaxation apps with the scenery and sounds...I enjoy it and it eases my stress. The data collection apps...they can be extremely useful. I am using one for myself and for my son who also suffers from anxiety and...you can get some useful information about anxety triggers, patterns to your anxiety, and also you can figure out if a particular treatment is working.
So to be clear...apps do not replace doctors or therapists...they don't replace medication...they do not replace face to face interaction with people or on-going communication. Apps are like the sprinkles on the ice-cream cone...someting extra that may help.
I am curious about what methods you have utilized to cope with your anxiety. We would love to hear them.
Thank you so much for joining this site.
Hi there,
As the developer for MyMoodTracker, I just wanted to say I'm glad you've found the app useful! I hope to continue expanding it in the future.
Cheers,
Ben
Hello Ben!
Yes I got this app and I love it. I looked at so many of them and this one was easy to use and is quite useful. I would be very interested in hearing about what improvements you may make to it. What I like about your app is that one can keep track of so many different variables but without it being cumbersome or difficult to understand. If an app takes too much work to figure out...I just delete it. I want my apps to make life easier and not more work.
Thanks so much for your comment!
Thinking about having to learn new technology (like iPad, iPod, iPhone) is what really gives me anxiety in the first place. Is there an app to deal with that? I guess it is the mfg's "help and support" app...? If I gain knowledge about what I am dealing with, then anxiety tends to subside.
Hi Donna!
I know...we have so many gadgets nowadays. I am still trying figure out how to operate my television and the VCR. By the time I figure it out they will have something new.
I was suprised though at how intuitive the iPads and iPods are...I am the most untechnical person in the world and it wasn't a problem. I have a bit of a fear of new technology so this was big for me to try it and like it.
Good to see you! I am eager to hear about your week.
