Hi,
I really like the mindfulness advice on this site. However, I wonder about the wisdom of trying to push distracting thoughts aside (recommended in the section on Lectio Divina). Thoughts that one struggles to push aside usually return with greater vehemence, simply because one has invested emotional energy (and maybe even a sense of urgency) in suppressing them. The best approach is to simply notice them, acknowledge their presence and return gently to our focus, be it the breath, a scriptural passage, etc. If they keep coming back, they will most likely do so with less urgency or strength. We should be patient with them and accepting. Struggle will only keep us locked in.
True...by "pushing aside" I only meant temporarily, while one is focussing on something else. Some people can "notice" and work through distressing thoughts, others do better to put aside and come back to them later. This is different than just ignoring or trying to push them away permanently...then they come back with a vengence!
I have tried meditation on my self, i have GAD and sometimes it is really helpful. but when anxiety attack is severe i can not think about anything, only problems come to my head and can not find solutions to solve that problems, it makes me more anxious and panicked, what can i do in that situation?? please help
thank you
