A psychiatrist or psychologist can diagnose anxiety disorders. During the initial evaluation, the doctor will ask you a series of questions about your worry, stress, life style, feelings, history, and health. A diagnosis is made based on the guidance in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM - IV). If you are exhibiting physical symptoms of anxiety, your doctor may perform EKG to check your heart, urine, blood and blood tests. These additional tests are to rule out the chance of another medical condition.
