Q: My anxiety medication not working. Ativan

I was on Lexapro  for a few weeks and was very weak, Seroquel which knocked me out so I am now off both. Anxiety runs in my family and it has been getting worse over the years. Now I am taking a 2mg Ativan along with my 25mg Zoloft, I am still moody, often very angry, and the Ativan doesn't seem to be working very well on my anxiety. It works for a couple hours, but I really hate the feeling. I get nervous, jaw lock, depression and I barely have an appetite anymore. Panic attacks occur atleast twice a month or so.  Is there any other medicines I should discuss with my doctor? I don't want anything crazy, but this Ativan is just not helping much at all!!

Your situation sounds really confounding - I can appreciate your frustration.  I'm not necessarily sure I would grab on to "new medications" as the answer but I think you probably need to work more closely with your doctor over the course of 4-6 weeks and try titrating in different amounts of Ativan or you might try introducing lower doses of Xanax or Buspar.
