Denise - Sounds like both of you are suffering as a result of his anxiety. He is lucky to have a partner who has stood by him and wants to help. It is very difficult to address a problem of this magnitude without lots of information so let me throw out a few general  suggestions that will hopefully be helpful. First of all, if your boyfriend has not been seeing a therapist and a psychiatrist that should be the first step. The Anxiety Disorders Assoc. of America has a very helpful website that can assist you in finding a therapist who has expertise in treating anxiety and there are links to clinical trials as well. Secondly, there are medications for treating anxiety that are not antidepressants. If he has not tried any of those there may be several beneficial avenues out there for him to try. Pursue these avenues and get back to us if you need additional help.   Rick Wirtz
