It is good that you have seen a doctor and are under the doctor's care for your racing heartbeat.
As far as managing stress, one of the best ways to control stress is to use deep breathing techniques. When talking with a psychologist about panic attacks before she said it was impossible to have a panic attack when deep breathing. It is important to practice deep breathing every day so that when you are in a stressful situation, you can automatically move to breathing deeply.
There are other ways of managing stress. Add exercise to your daily routine. Even 15 minutes a day has been shown to reduce feelings of anxiety, depression and lower stress levels.
Make sure you eat a well balanced diet and stay away from caffeine and alcohol as these can increase nervousness and anxiety.
Cognitive behavioral therapy has also been found to be just as effective as medication in treating anxiety.
