Q: I have an unspecified seizure disorder and have suddenly started panic attacks.

I take keppra and lyrica for the seizures and usually go a few weeks without a seizure(grand mal). My MD has given me xanax for the panic but now wants to switch me to celexa or a similar drug, even though I am not depressed. I saw a drug on here called klonapin that is for panic attacks and seizures. Does this drug sound more reasonable to take or is there some reason not to take this. I was thinking maybe it would help me have even fewer seizures. I think my panic is caused by never knowing when I'm going to have a seizure.

Thank you for your question and welcome to AnxietyConnection.com.

I am not a medical professional and would not be able to give you advice on your medications.

I can provide you with some information about different medications.

Celexa is an antidepressant and is sometimes prescribed to treat anxiety disorders as well. Many antidepressants are used in this way. As far as Klonopin treating both seizures and anxiety, that is something you should discuss directly with your physician.

For further information:

  • Celexa Oral
  •

  • Klonopin Oral

hey i had the exact same problem but my doc put me on dilantin and klonipin..now klonipin is a good drug for both seizures and for anxiety, but it is slow acting.like yopu know the xanax kicks in pretty quick to help with a panic attack.but with the klonipin you take it at a certain time and it really takes anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour to kick in..so i talked my doc into giving me ativan for those un exspected panic attacks..but overall it is a great drug for both, but takes awhile to kick in.thats why when you have a seizure and go to the er they usually give you ativan cause its faster acting

it helps but it is addictive...I take atenelol (sp?) for blood pressure reasons but it seems to help.  What seizure med are you on?
