Hi Doreen,

I'm a Psychologist, not a Psychiatrist, so I am not going to recommend a specific medication for obessive thoughts. There are medications that can help reduce obsessive thoughts, and you can seek a consultation to see if one would be appropriate for you.  I recommend that you see a Psychiatrist rather than your family physician, because they have more time to stay current about these types of medications.

I'd also like to encourage you to seek other types of help for your obsessive thoughts.  There are many approaches within Cognitive Behavioral therapy that are aimed at reducing and eliminated the "why," and "what if" questions.  You can look for a therapist near you by going to the Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA) website.
