Q: are angry moods related to anxiety? and can the person not be aware of their behavior?

he gets in these angry moods about every three weeks. he looks for an arguement and is negative about everything (sometimes it is scarey). he totally denies that he is like this and thinks i am nuts. he has been on medication for anxiety for years, and from my point of view has also had these angry moods. is this related to the anxiety? and is their a reason why they happen about every three weeks?

Hi Lori,

It sounds like you've had some frustration and fear being in a relationship with this man. Anger problems can be easily denied by people who have them, and may be the result of many different factors, so it's hard for me to comment on your particular situation.  I can say, though, that when a person denies their behavior, it's very difficult for those that are close to that person.  It might be a good idea for you to seek some counseling yourself to help get some clarity about your situation.  You can find a therapist near you at the Psychology Today website.

Usually anger is an opposite feeling from anxiety, meaning that it's hard to be anxious while one is angry.  They are not necessarily a part of anxiety disorders, but that's not to say that people with anxiety do not get angry or can have serious problems with anger.

I hope this helps,

Regards,
