Does citalopram (generic) work as well as Lexapro? My prescription drug coverage ends in April.

Thank you for your question and welcome to AnxietyConnection.com.

I am not a medical professional and would not be able to give you medical advice.

However, it would be impossible to say whether the generic version would work as well for you. Most people do find that generic medications work just as well as the brand names, but because everyone reacts differently, I cannot say for sure.

I am sorry you will no longer have insurance to cover your prescription medication. Many pharmaceutical companies do offer programs to help those without insurance or those that are not able to pay for medications. You can find out about these program and how to apply at: Free or Low Cost Medications.

I hope this helps. Please let us know how ou are doing.

As far as I know, there is not yet a generic form of Lexapro.  This is something you should talk to your doctor about.  You may be able to get samples or get help from the drug company if you can't afford it.  Let me know if you need any other information.
