Q: I have this odd feeling like something is stuck in the middle of my throat.

I have also been having some slight trouble swallowing solid foods so I have lost my appetite and quite a bit of weight. I cant see a doctor until Feb. 1st because my insurance doesn't kick in until then. I try to cough it out but no matter how hard I try nothing changes and I just end up with a soar throat.

Hi there

I am glad you are going to see a doctor about this.  This would be my first suggestion.  Are you having any other symptoms?  Do you have post nasal drip, acid reflux, a feeling like something is obstructing the throat?  Have you had your tonsils out?

This feeling can also be caused by anxiety and it is called Globus Hystericus which simply means an anxiety induced lump in the throat sensation.  You may wish to visit the link and read my article on this but also all the comments from members.  There are things people try which seem to help.

I hope that you find out what is causing this soon.  Please do come back and let us know how you are doing.

Thank you for answering. I have other things going on but these are just the most troublesome. I have a feeling its anxiety, im just worried because it happens when im not even thinking about it and it occurs randomly throughout the day. I had uvulitis a while back(thats when the uvula swells do to an infection, allergy, etc) and i woke up choking and gagging. I also couldnt swallow much for a few days, so im thinking maybe i freaked myself out. Im beginning to think i have acid reflux as well. I just dont know what to do eating wise, im pretty much living off of applesauce and tomato soup right now and Ive lost a lot of weight. Everyime I eat its either swallowing issues or my mouth gets tired of chewing and then i get frustrated, or i eat and my stomch gets upset. I also occasionally have trouble breathing for a few minutes and then it passes. It's kind of scaring me, i'm hoping the doctor can help me.

Hi again

I can see where you would be worried.  The feeling of choking is horrible.  Do you feel that you may have a bit of post traumatic stress disorder over your past medical condition?

Will you come back and let us know what your doctor says?  It may help others here who are having a similar experience.

I wish you the best of luck with this and I hope you find the cause of your symptoms.
