i am afraid to take the citalopram until i know that it is comparative to the dosage i was on with lexapro. the change was made only because the insurance company offered a lower price for the citalopram.

Amy - There is no way for anyone to tell you if you will get the same benefit from Citalopram 40 mgs. that you did from Lexapro 15 mgs. However, Lexapro is more potent than Citalopram so a smaller dose is typically given. Ask your physician how the dose conversion was made. The pharmacist where you have your prescriptions filled may also be able to help you understand if these dosages are in the same ballpark.
