Q: Is Diazapan safe for a 9yr old with anxiety issues, or justa short term measure

when she needs medical treatment she refuses and screams, her dentist has tried to clean her teeth, but has had to give up due to her "panic" state, when she has a wobbly tooth, she refuses to eat or drink which has resulted in our having the tooth removed by force with local anaestheic.  A few years ago, she had an acciden, refused the exray and was sent home to take calpol, took her to another hospital who after several hours mangaed to get an exray done to find a broken elbow.  on a day to day basis, if something upsets her within the home, she gets VERY angry with everyone and screams and shouts.  When she gets in a "state", we have tried to get her to breath deeply to calm down, sometimes this works, sometimes she needs time out as you cannot reason with her.  We have been seeking the help of a psychologist who has suggested we give her diazepan when we know she needs medical treatment, but this isn't going to help us on a day to day basis or long term. We are at a loss as to what we can do to try and make homelife less like a battle zone?

Thank you for your question and welcome to AnxietyConnection.com.

I am not a medical professional and would not be able to give you advice on whether to give your daughter diazapan.

I would suggest contacting a psychiatrist and having a complete evaluation done. A psychiatrist can work with your current psychologist to come up with a treatment plan to help your daughter cope, not only with medical procedures but daily frustrations.
