I so want so much to get off of this drug, and I have asked Dr.s for the last 20 yrs. I am now on Effexor and am trying to wean myself off of serax. I now take 7.5 mg 2x daily, down from 15mg 3x daily. My Effexor is 75mg 2x daily. The problem that I am having is fogged memory, blurred vision, dry throat, insomnia. I want to know if this will dissapate in time. So many Doctors will no longer prescribe this medication and now that I have moved to a different part of the country, I find myself getting panic attacks over the thought of not finding a doctor that will prescribe this, so that is why I am trying to wean myself off before I get a doctor.I was prescribed this medication over 20yrs ago for panic attacks and have never been taken off, because Dr's say that if it works than why change it. I have tried every other antidepressant with no success.I just want someone to understand and help me to get off this very addictive medication

If you can help, I will be forever greatfull

Thank you Patric21

If the Effexor sufficiently treats your anxiety/panic attacks and you are able to tolerate it, then the doctor prescribing it can create a "weaning " schedule to take you off the Serax and he should be the one to do it.  That being siad, if you find that you tolerate Serax with less side effects, he can prescribe it and you can arrange to have it mailed to you through your insurance company -it's done all the time in cases where people travel or need drugs less accessible - talk to the doctor about that possibility.
