Q: Reducing Xanax, incredibly fatigued?

I've been on treatment for Panic attacks since the 26th November. I started the treatment so I could manage to do my SAT exam, since my first panic attack was while writing one.

I was prescribed .25g Xanax 2 x a day and then after a month I'd start reducing it.

So for 10 days I took it 2 x a day and these last 2 days I've cut it down to 1 x a day.

Problem is, I feel so incredibly weak, fatigued and depressed.Could this be a withdrawal symptom or will I actually need to stick to those 2 X a day doses? Forever.

I hate taking medication, I'm so scared of becoming addcited!

Hi Valleyofthedolls,

No, you do not need to take Xanax forever, but since medication does not "cure" anxiety, you need to learn skills so that you can manage it.  Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT) is highly effective for treating anxiety.

You can learn about abdominal breathing, Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR), and other skills and information by exploring this site.
