Q: is being on klonopin for approx 13 yrs a danger

i have been on klonopin since 1994., i take 2mg, 3 times a day now. it has been increased over the past few years., i feel as though it really is not working anymore. i do not want to increase the dose., what long term side effects come with this medicine , and if you take it for so many years?

i also have been on zoloft., same amount of time.

and i take heart medicine., cardia, atenolol., for premature arteria flutter. i do not feel like i have any energy at all., always tired.,

Hello Donnalyn,

I've been on Klonopin for 10 years myself...my experience has been that if you take more than 4 mg per day you will have the opposite effect of the drug...you will have increased anxiety instead of relief from your anxiety.  My old Psychiatrist told me this several years ago.  I love Klonopin and I take only about 3 mg per day for panic attacks...I use it as a preventative or when I'm going to see family!!  :>)  I hope this helps....
