Kelly,

Anxiety and panic are common problems.  It would be helpful for you to get an evaluation from a mental health professional that specializes in treating anxiety.  You can find a good referral at www.abct.org or www.adaa.org.  If you are having panic attacks cognitive behavioral therapy has been found to be very helpful for most people.  Additionally, medications can often help.  The person who evaluates you can make recommendations regarding both therapy and medications.

Kelly - I agree with Dr. Tarlow. If you are frightened about your baby's safety because of how stressed you become, please see someone immediately. Be sure to get as much help and support from family and friends as you can to keep both of you safe.

Although most woman stop nursing after a few months some mothers choose to do so for much longer. If you are continuing to nurse and your doctor wants to prescribe medication please be sure to ask if it has been established as safe for use while nursing.
