Q: my son is taking Buspar, Depokote and Cymbalta can these make him have feelings of serious illness?

The doctor added Depokote to the current medicines that my son is taking for depression &anxiety disorder. Since he started taking this medicine he has started feeling like he has a serious illness & that he is dying. Could you let me know if his other medicines could be interacting adversly with the Depokote.  Any advice or suggestions would be helpful.

This sounds like something you should call your doctor and speak with him about as soon as possible. Pharmacists are also a good source of information on what medications interact with other medications.

Once you have talked with your doctor, please let us know how your son is doing and what the outcome was.

Hi Sharon,

It is best you speak to your doctor. Depakote (or Depakene, divalproex sodium) is a medication used to treat seizures, prescribed to folks who are bipolar and numerous other uses. The side effects of the drug do say to call the doctor immediately if any of the following symptoms appear:

"This medication rarely may cause mood or behavior changes, such as anxiety, agitation, hostility, pressured/rapid speech, or thoughts of suicide. Tell your doctor immediately if you develop unusual (possibly sudden) mood changes."

I don't see any drug interactions, but that doesn't mean they do not exist.

You can use this information to ask your doctor about the possibilities. Let us know what you find out. Stay in touch. We'll be thinking of you and your son.

He maybe suffering from Seritonin Sickness, which is one of the rare interactions resulting from taking Cymbalta and Buspar together. Ask Physician to order blood level test ASAP
