Q: Should I stop taking Effexor?

i am a diagnosed bipolar, depression, and anxiety, ptsd..i see mental health for my meds, but my family doctor put me on effexor a good while back.Recently the shrink put me on pristiq and he knew all of my other meds. Went to family dr and she was going to drop it back from 100mg 2 xs a day to 75mg 3xs a day. Then shey came in and told me she wanted me to stop taking it completely because I was on pristiq. She said it would cause serotonin syndrome.the thing is i have been taking them both for several months and have felt better. In the beginning when she put me on effexor it helped my depression greatly and still does...So the question is should i stop taking it or should i keep taking it until i see my shrink next and let him decide?

Thank you for your question and welcome to AnxietyConnection.com.

I am not a medical professional and would not be able to give you medical advice.

You may be able to call your psychiatrist and discuss this with him/her. This might be better than waiting until your next appointment. Talking with your psychiatrist would give you a second opinion on whether or not these two medications should be taken together.
