Q: What type of credentials does a therapist need to prescribe medication?

Thank you for your question and welcome to Health Central's Anxiety Community.

 

The answer is that this can be different from state to state. For example, in some states psychologists and nurse practitioners can prescribe medication while in other states only those with an M.D. or higher can prescribe medication. You would need to check with your state's medical board for a more specific answer.
