Q: Alternative treatment?

I have been prescribed zoloft, but was dizzy with headaches so now I am taking lexapro. That has  also started giving me headaches with dizziness. My anxiety causes throat tightness and cant catch a breath. I feel like I need some medicine but am really not a fan of taking meds. I have been doing yoga and walking and trying to eat better but doesnt seem like enough. Are there any supplements that help with my symptoms? I am tempted to go more of the natural route.

Thank you for your question and welcome to Health Central's Anxiety Community.

I am not a medical professional and would not be able to give you medical advice.

You are not alone in wanting to find alternative methods for treating your anxiety. Many people prefer not to take medication, however, some find it necessary.

You may want to look into cognitive behavioral therapy, which has been found to be more effective than medication in the long-term. You can try contacting some of the psychologists in your area to ask if they work with this type of therapy.

As far as supplements, I am not sure whether these would work for you. Although some do say they can help anxiety, you have to be careful as these are not regulated by the FDA, can still cause side effects and can interfere with other medication you may be on. I would strongly suggest speaking with your doctor before taking any supplements and working with him or her to find a good dosage for you.

I hope this helps. Please check back and let me know how you are doing.
