Q: Can nervousness or anxiety cause the body to swell?

Whenever I get nervous or anxious right before a big event, I notice that my body swells up and I lose muscletone.  Is there a connection?  If so, what can I do about it?  Would taking an anti-anxiety pill before these events address the swelling?

Hi Mikachew,

Here is a great overview of what being diagnosed with Anxiety actually means, how it affects you and your body. You can check symptoms here in the symptoms checker. Once you have been diagnosed with Anxiety and the doctor has put you on medication, you can read about the various medications available here in the drugs database. You can also help develop a treatment plan and get information here about the current treatments available.

Remember, online sites are great resources for information so that you are able to ask the important questions that will help you manage your healthcare, however they can not take the place of your doctor's solid medical advice.

Take care and stay in touch!
