How do you address people that tell you you're disorder is "all in your head"?
Hi wer'e not alone,
I and my 14 year old son suffer from PTSD, Anxiety, and Panic Attacks, my son is also bi-ploar> It is not easy to explain to people what you or a loved one is going through. the first thing you need to understand that basicaly no one understands. Now once you are past that realization one can stop feeling frustrated and or angry that others do not have a clue. How could they? The truth is most people cannot even imagine what it is like> I also grew up with untreated mentally ill mother. So the best approach for me has been to respond (with a smile) and say yes you are correct it is all in my head. The synopseses in my brain are malfuntioning and I am not producing or reciving the correct brain chemicals for my brain to funciton normally. There are some great books in the Library if you are interested I could name a few. Now make sure you know a couple tiltles to throw out there. I usually get two responses the first if they are interested or just trying to be polite will be for them to show interest. The other is they usually change the subject. For sport picture them in their underwear wondering what a brain chemical is.
vlbhopes you are doing well.
