Q: 19 year old female. Diagnosed with Generalised Anxiety Disorder when I was only 6 years old...

I am 19 years old and have had experienced excessive anxiety and worry since I can remember.  I have been to counsellors, taken herbal supplements, tried meditation, accupuncture, read many self help books, even been to a phsyciatrist.  But nothing seems to stick.

I am thinking of going on some medication as my anxiety/moodiness is effecting my work and personal relationships as well as my own personal growth. I am not sure about which ones are best as I have heard many make you drowsy, depressed and even suicidal.  I don't want to become a space cadet and lose my bubbly personality!

Hello Sami (welcome to the site)

Your question is one that often comes back, people want to know what is the best medication for anxiety, well it doesnt work that way I'm sorry to say and often it will be a trial and error as your Doctor will prescribe...it depends on how YOU react to it and its different for each person, what might be the best for one might be very different on the next person.

So only your Doctor will be able to see what is best for you, one other thing you must keep in mind that the medication is not a magic solution, to often people think that the medication will do all the ''work'' and thats not the case, what I mean is you must be willing to make changes in your life I am not a Doctor but I guess I'm a old soul when it comes to anxiety issues so I been told.

What I can tell you for shure is that trough the years I have dealt with major anxiety (gad) and its not a life sentence people can have a really nice quality of life when they put a step forward in learning how to live and grow from it.
