Q: I get a strange sensation in the middle of my chest anytime I wake up.

Over the last several months I've noticed that whenever I wake up (in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, or in the morning), I get a strange sensation in the middle of my chest that radiates out. I wouldn't call it painful, but I could say it's a burning sensation. I don't know if it could be heart related or caused by some kind of hormone that is released into my system or a symptom of some type of anxiety....It is disconcerting. I told my nurse practitioner but she dismissed it. I'm a 55 yr. old woman.

Thank you for your question and welcome to AnxietyConnection.com.

I am not a medical professional and would not be able to give you medical advice.

I would suggest talking with your doctor about your symptoms. If these symptoms are bothersome or disconcerting, you should make an appointment with the doctor rather than the nurse practitioner. Your physician would be best able to determine if there is a physical cause for your symptoms.
