my 8 year old daughter was at a friends playing and the dad made her feel very uncomfortable, she said she was sick and wanted to call her mommy, so he had her sit on the couch and he rubbed her back, she said she was very uncomfortable. Now she wont go to her (any) friends to play, she has panik attacks at school, I have had her in therapy for a couple of months and she is still not getting any better. Do you have any advice as to what I should do. I am having a hard time trying to make her better, I want to cry. Her quality of life has drastically changed. We are working with the school in attempting to keep her there, she can spend 1 hour in class then 15 minutes with the nurse just to try and make it through the day.

Hi TP,

I'm so sorry to hear that your daughter is struggling so much.  First of all, I'm wondering what kind of therapy she is getting.  Please talk to your daughter's therapist and find out what the treatment plan and goals are.  You can read about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) here, which is highly effective for anxiety disorders.

Other links that you might find useful:

Abdominal Breathing

Progressive Muscle Relaxation

You might try a book written for kids, such as What to Do When You Worry Too Much, or The Think Good Feel Good Workbook, which has a lot of CBT exercises (I use it a lot with kids with anxiety).

I hope this helps.
