Q: My husband has been on klonopin-3 mg for 15 years and is very agressive towards me and our children

His behaviour is getting more extreme,he blows up over minor things, swears at us and then tries to forget about it, and he has totally upset the entire family on many occasions. I have tried to calmly talk to him about this and my concern that it may be his medication. He does not think there is a problem and will not discuss it.   He only sees his Dr once a year  but has no real check up, it is just for insurance purposes so he can get his prescription renewed... Please forward any advice

Wow, thats kind of scary. My dose is .50 2x a day . 3mg seems like alot but what do I know. I thought it was supposed to have a calming effect?

Klonopin can disinhibit aggressive behavior. A mood stabilizer would be a better choice to decrease impulsive aggressive behavior.

Hi Katiekk,

I can't believe that I'm answering you. Last night my husband (1.5mg klonopin for about the past 7-8 years) became so angry at me (over nothing) that he started throwing things, breaking chairs! This is NOT his behavior at all! I began researching and found your question within a few minutes. I'm certain that the klonopin is involved. Google Klonopin and aggression. You'll find massive amounts of information.  I have to go..my husband just pulled in to the garage.

Good luck to you,  Frantic Flori

PS: Try talking to your Husband's MD or nurses as best you can get around HPPA laws
