Often times in the evening you have the increased tendency to dwell on issues since you are not occupied by the pace of the day and the day's activities, which can help to "avert your anxiety" (by occcupying your attention and focus).  It might also depend on what's at the root of these attacks since isolation (or feelings of islolation) can increase some people's levels of anxiety and put them more at risk of these attacks.
