Hi Lynn,   Since medication does not "cure" anxiety, it is not uncommon for there to be a return of symptoms when someone discontinues it as well as "rebound" anxiety (anxiety that seems worse).   If you wish to get off of medication, you should do two things:   1. Withdrawl under the supervision of a Psychiatrist (they can help you come up with a schedule that will minimize symptoms).   2. Get some Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).  You need to learn how to control your anxiety if you are not going to take medication, and CBT is highly effective for doing that.   You can look for a therapist that specializes in anxiety on the Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA) website.    Regards,   Jennifer L.
