Q: Side effects of the Sleeping pills..Please advice.

I had been having insomnia problems for more than 4 years. Had been taking sleeping pills as prescribed by doc and had attended to psychiatrist. Had also went through counsellings. They had diagnosed me under serious depression. However my situation had been better about 1 year ago. However the medicines that being prescribed had caused me great side effects such as serious headache whenever wake up, drowziness and loss of appetite and concentration. I had stopped taking those medicines for about a year. And recently my insomnia is back. I havent sleep for about 8 days.  And sometimes i dont even know if i had sleep or not. I can hear people asking me to go die and suicide. I tried with Alprazolam yesterday night and it did really put me to sleep. I took 1 mg instead of 0.5mg. I did sleep but its now causing me great headache. Is this the side effect? Can i still take it? Kindly please advice. Thank you very much.
