Q: Was taking 3mgs of Xanax divided daily. Recently taking 30mgs of Adderall.Decreased Xanax.

I started taking three mgs of xanax daily until last November. This was given to me by my primary care Dr. Have been taking since last March. In November I went to see a psychiatrist who started me on ADD meds. I found him on my own since my insurance does not include mental health. I discussed the Xanax with him, but he acted like he did not want to get involved with the issue since he did not prescribe the Xanax. The ADD issue was exsisting from my early twenties. Was started on 30 mgs of adderall daily. I stopped taking xanax in the day time and now take usually 2 mgs at night as I am having some tingling in hands and feet. Usually one mg at 5pm and another at 10pm.

I also have a severe problem with hyperhidrosis . All over my body. Mostly face and abdomen. This is one of the main reasons I was taking the xanax in the first place. I was told by a pharmacist friend that I should switch to a longer half life benzo to avoid the tingling problem and also insomnia. My question is, can I take the Xanax three times daily with the adderall or will one counteract the other. Oddly enough, I do not seem to have the sweating problem as frequently on the Adderall. Another thing is, if I decrease the Xanax to where I am no longer having the withdrawal symptoms, does this mean I can never use it again on a as needed basis? It has been the only thing that has worked for the sweating. I have tried all of the other meds for this like trazodone, desoryl and a few beta blockers and ace inhibitors but they caused way more side effects than I could handle. SSRI's have been discussed but I do not wish to try them for several reasons, one of which is that all of the info I have read about them seem to indicate that they have to be tapered as well and take so long to work. Also again they all have side effects that seem to out way the potential. I know that benzos are for short periods, but my mother took 10 mgs of Valium for 32 years three times a day and never had any problems with addiction or abuse. Nexium is what ultimately caused her death in 2004.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

Your questions are all good ones but way out of the range of expertise of nonmedical providers. If you have a complicated medical presentation and are taking medications with competing actions you need someone who is very skilled at prescribing. If your psychiatrist doesn't want to manage all of your psychoactive meds then you may want to find one who will. There are many ways to approach your problems but you need someone who is very experienced. If you live in a large metro area or have access to a university affiliated teaching hospital you may be able to find a psychopharmacologist if you can't find a psychiatrist who is willing to work with all of the meds.

I am getting ready to get on adderall for my ADD and Xanax for my anxiety and i also have hyperhydrosis and it seems like we went through the same issues. I had started my anxiety problem mainly when the hyperhydrosis did like when i was in middle school at least thats all i could remember, when i was in middle school i couldn't think back to rememberif i had the sweating before then because of my ADD i have a bad memory. But yeah i had horrible anxiety that started because i had the worst sweating problem, and not usually were u would think i didnt have a bad problem at all under my armpits i had it on my hands horribly to where they would be dripping sweat which caused so many problems with schoolwork and friends and that would cause anxiety and embarrasment which brought on the sweating to get worse usually if i got anxiety. I also had horrible sweating on my feet and they would be as cold as ice alot of the time but still be drenched in sweat. And just like u i sweated on my face bad to mainly on my upper lip and bad on my eyebrow area.
