Q: I have been diagnosed with anxiety and feel I dont need medication any longer -- suggestions?

Was a caregiver for (24yrs) an elderly lady, who recently passed away -- didnt not take her death well, was in a career changing school, and filling divorce -- these were happening all at once  -- now things are alot better in my life -- am alot happier , less stressed, and starting to work out three days a week  --- I went to my psychiatrist yesterday and spoke to her of my wishes and she is tapering me off meds

Hi Medora777,

Congrats on your achievements and progress!! It's a wonderful feeling when you have passed the tough times and can see the light ahead.

Make sure that you work with your doctor to come off of the medications slowly. You did not say which medication you were taking, but most of them warn not to stop the medication suddenly and always taper off with the advice and care of your doctor.

You can read about commonly prescribed medications for Anxiety here in the drugs database.

Good luck Medora. Please stay in touch and let us know how you are doing!
