Q: Panic attacks/depression, not being able to eat.

Hello, I'm 18, 5'3 about 100 pounds. I have been going through a panic attack and depression for 3 days now, i was in depression before earlier last year, and it lasted 4 days. This time i can not eat normally, i have a horrorible gag reflex to the point where if i push myself to eat i throw it up. I can only eat crackers or pretzels with lots of water, no major meals and the smell of cooking makes me sick. I am worried about weight loss, and i started taking 250mgc vitamin B-12 today, because i heard it can help your brain with panic attacks and anxiety. Any advice would be welcomed, thank you.

Thank you for your question and welcome to AnxietyConnection.com.

I am not a medical professional and would not be able to give you medical advice.

You don't mention in your question whether or not you have seen a doctor. If not, that is the first place you should start. Your physician would be able to determine if there is any physical underlying reason for your symptoms and help you create a plan to overcome some of your symptoms.

Hi there

I am going to add just a bit to Eileen's excellent advice.  It seems gagging is a behavior some people who have panic attacks and anxiety may have.  Take a look at this member question about gagging and all of the subsequent answers...perhaps there is some answer there of what to do.

Eileen's advice is very good...you do need to see your doctor about this...perhaps there is some medical underlying condition that you are unaware of.  Is there a certain trigger for the gagging?  The smell of food?  Certain thoughts?

Let us know what happens.  We want to know that you are okay.
