Q: my dr just changed my meds that i've been on for years

i've been on lithium 300mg 3x day, xanax 2mg 3x day, cymbalta 30mg 1x day. now i'm on busbar10mg 2x day, xanax xr 3mg 2x day, seraquel xr 300mg 1x at bedtime. i understand this has to get into my system for it to level out but seraquel makes me groggy and hard to get awake. how are these things different from what i was on before and how long before the seraquel stops making me feel that way?

Thank you for your question and welcome to AnxietyConnection.com.

Lithium is a medication used to treat mania, the "up" stage of bipolar disorder when you can feel excited and hyperactive.

Cymbalta is an antidepressant.

Buspar is a medication used to treat anxiety.

Seraquel is a medication used to treat symptoms of schizophrenia.

Each medication works to help reduce certain symptoms. Your docto r should be able to explain why he chose these medications and how he expects each to help you.

Usually side effects disappear after the first few weeks of taking a medication, however, if the side effects are interfering with your ability to carry out daily tasks, you should contact your doctor.
