Hi Rena   That's a very broad question with a number of possible answers. I don't know what your understanding is of generalized anxiety disorder so let me first point you in the direction of some useful information. This link takes you to some information about generalized anxiety is and its symptoms. This one relates to diagnosis and duration of GAD. Finally, this takes you to some information on prevention and treatment of GAD.   Now, your role in supporting can be quite varied and could range from emotional and practical support to a bit of tough love. If your husband is on medication it is important that he takes this. If he is involved in therapy (e.g. counselling or some other form of psychotherapy) it is important that he takes any exercises or homework tasks seriously. You can help by ensuring these things occur.   Some people with GAD find that biofeedback systems help with daily relaxation. Biofeedback isn't necessarily expensive and there are all sorts of options ranging from battery operated hand held devices that emit a noise in response to arousal levels, to sofware you can install into your pc. Typically the software allows you options to say change a miserable face to a smiley, or to produce a sunset on the screen just by learning to relax appropriately.   Also encourage your husband to eat sensibly and take exercise. This two can have a profound effect on mental health. If he feels too sluggish it may be that his meds are too strong. Don't become his mother and encourage him to maintain responsibility and make decisions. Depending on the level of his anxiety you will need to pitch your response accordingly.   Hope these few general ideas help a little to get you started.
