should I take Zoloft or Buspar for Social Anxiety Disorder?

Jason
01/30/09

I suffer from social anxiety disorder. I'm a popular guy but when it comes to speaking in public, introducing myself, or when the spotlight is on me I have panic attacks with all the dreaded symptoms. I began taking zoloft last yr which helped a lot (except for the side effect of decreased sex drive). This past summer I got off the pill hoping the anxiety went away but it came back again. I went back to the psychiatrist and he gave me the option of zoloft or buspar. (My only concern about the Zoloft is the decreased sex drive)Can someone please give me advice to which one I should choose? Is there any difference between the 2 pills? Thanks a lot!

Thank you for your question, however, it would be impossible to tell you which medication you should take. Each person reacts differently to different medications so while zoloft may be the best medication for some people, buspar may work better for others. Often, it is a matter of trial and error for someone to find the right medication and the right dosage.

Talk with your doctor about your concern.
