I have been on Effexor XR 150mg. for years. I didn't take it for about a week. Now I am having migraines. Should I have started back on a lower dose. Or should I just ride this out on the 150mg. How long will these headaches last ?

Thank you for your question and welcome to AnxietyConnection.com.

I am not a medical professional and would not be able to give you medical advice.

Stopping Effexor suddenly can cause withdrawal symptoms. Usually, doctors will wean you off this medication to help decrease withdrawal symptoms. it sounds as if you have gone off this medication on your own, without having discussed this with your physician first.

I would suggest talking with your doctor about stopping your medication and explaining the symptoms you have been experiencing. He or she would be better able to determine what you should do from here on out and whether or not you should expect to feel additional withdrawal symptoms in the coming weeks.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I did know about the withdrawal effects.I made a mistake and didn't fill my medication container. I was just wondering if there was anyone out there that experienced the same thing. I will call my doctor and try to wean off. I have read that prozac can help with the weaning. I have been taking antidepressants all of my adult life. I would like to try and be free of all of this medication. I don't know which is more scarey, being on so many meds, or trying to be off of them. Thanks again.

The same happens to me when I don't take my medication. Generally for me it last about 2-3 weeks. What you might want to do is go back to your origanally dose then start tapering off or suffer
