Q: Is there different treatments for people who get anxiety from a side effect from a current medicatio

I am an epileptic who is currently on some new medications, and 2 of the medications side effects are anxiety.  The medications are Keppra & Lyrica.  I was told by my specialist that Lyrica was suppost to calm me down but, it has done the opposite.

Hi Tammy: I'm not a physician, but have many patients on seizure medications, such as Keppra, Lyrica, Dilantin and Neurontin. You can find a complete listing of medications, their uses and side effects at Medline Plus, a government website.

When I read through the profiles of each of the medications I named, the only one that didn't list anxiety as a possible side effect was Dilantin, (or phenytoin), but it has its own problems.

You probably are already aware of the The Epilepsy Foundation, but in case you aren't, you might visit their site, too.

You should certainly talk with your physician about this, however.

I hope this helps,

Diana Walcutt, Ph.D.
