Q: what do you consider a safe dosage of Xanax and how long does it remain effective in your body?

I take xanax as needed. I take 1/2 milligram in the morning and the other 1/2 at nite. Would taking the full 1 mlligram at once be better or more effective? When is the best time to take it? I have problems with anxiety like not being able to find things and then become very anxious until I find them

Nora - Since we all have our own unique sensitivities to medications there is no hard and fast guideline for safety. You should be having these discussions with the physician that prescribes your Xanax. How often to take it depends on how long you are feeling that your anxiety is adequately managed. There are other medications for anxiety that can be taken once per day which eliminates the kinds of concerns that you are raising about how to take the Xanax. You may want to speak to your physician about the pros and cons of other medications.
