Q: My doctor has put me on the lowest dose available of LIPITOR. Could that also be causing the dizzy s

I am having dizzy spells, mostly when I'm lying down. The room is steady when I open my eyes, the feeling is in my head. As if the inside of my head is rolling.

I'm usually alright once in an upright position, though I am sometimes dizzy even then.

I am not aware of feelings of anxiety.

Hi Olivette,

Thank you for your question! Dizziness is a rather common side effect of Lipitor, occurring in 2-10% of the people who take this medication. If the dizziness is very bothersome to you and is affecting your lifestyle, you may want to ask your doctor if he or she can prescribe another cholesterol medication for you. There are several other medications similar to Lipitor (Crestor, Zocor, Mevacor, and Pravachol) that your doctor could try. If it's not that bothersome to you, you may choose to give it a try for a few weeks to see if the side effect goes away once your body becomes used to the medication. You can read more about Lipitor by clicking here.

Best of luck,

Casey
