Q: I take Xanax 4 times a day, but sometimes I need to take 2 or 3 at a time to help my anxiety.

I took 3 this morning. My doctor called me in for a urine test. Will it show up that I took too many? If so, how long should I wait to go for the test today? Thanks.

Thank you for your question and welcome to AnxietyConnection.com.

It would be impossible for me to say whether this would show up on a urine test as this would be dependent on what type of screenings your doctor is requesting.

If your medication is not helping you manage your anxiety, you should speak with your doctor and let him know. You may want to read the following and share the results with your doctor.

Thank you.....I think it's time to make a change in meds. I've been on Xanax for about 15 years. They just don't work that much anymore.

Thanks again for your reply.......

I would be interested in hearing how you make out, what medication your doctor recommends and how it works for you. Please check back and let us know how you are doing.

Sorry I didn't get back to you Eileen, but I haven't seen my doctor yet. He's a bit weird and doesn't like to give out meds. I'm 55 years old....give me a break! I'm not looking to get high. Getting high to me would be not having panic attacks.

I'll post back when I see him.

Thanks again for your concern,

Joey

Thanks and I will look for your reply after you see your doctor. However, if you do not feel you are getting the right care from your doctor, can you look into changing doctors?

Hi Eileen

OK, saw my doc. He told me I can take 2 if needed. He doesn't want to put me on a different med because I'm taking some other meds (long story....car accident), and Xanax is the only med that will not effect them. I did try Valium once but it made me very sleepy, plus they really didn't work. So, he's OK with me taking a few more Xanax...... he told me to be careful and try not to take any more then 3 "THE MOST".

I don't get these bad attacks that often. It seems to be only around this time of the year for some reason. Weird, huh?!

Thanks for being concerned Eileen.....

Just checking in to see how you are doing. Have the panic attacks lessened? Do you find you need to take 3 pills often?

Hi Eileen

Thanks for checking back on me. The panic attacks come and go. For some reason, allergy time of the year (now) seems to be the worst.....I can't figure that one out! It's always been worse this time of the year for a very long time...I'd say probably over 20 years. So I take 3 pills as soon as I feel it coming on, and it does work. My doctor said it's OK to do that. I usually don't even need any more for the rest of the day, so that's good. It does make me a bit tiered though, but that's better that speedy.

So life goes on. Laughing As long as it works, I'm happy. Thank you again Eileen for being concerned about me. I hope all is well by you.
