Isam,
There are some very good options for treating OCD other than medications. Generally, the most effective treatment is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy called "exposure and response prevention (ERP)." ERP involves exposing the person to the objects or images that freighten them and then preventing them from doing compulsions. After repeated practice the person feels much less anxious. The treatment is made easier by starting with objects that produce a small amount of anxiety and working up to more difficult situations. There are many good self help books that detail this treatment. Getting Control by Lee Baer is one of my favoriets. To find a therapist in your area you can contact the Obsessive Compulsive Foundation or check the referral lists at www.abct.org or www.adaa.org.
