I have been suffering from anxiety, anxiety attacks, and severe depression since 2001, I know what it is related to though.

However, I am taking 20 mg of prozac a day along with 30 mg of valium as prescribed by my psychiatrist. My side effects are constant sleeping long hours, even after waking up in the morning.  I feel light headed and am still experiencing severe anxiety and depression still (it has gotten worse). I have been on valium for 6 months (the doctor has increased my valium intake), only a month on prozac.  Anyone else experience this? Is it normal for me to be experiencing what I have been?

I cannot drive long distances now due to constant drowsiness and lightheadedness (I just about fell asleep driving home from school the other day and then also once had to have someone come get me--quite a distance too).

I told them the side effects and they told me to take my prozac at night before I go to bed.  Everything is still the same though.  I am feeling so beyond out of it, I think it might be the prozac, being that I am fairly new to it?  Before they had my on Zoloft, busiporine, and valium.  That was not working.  There has been other ones that have not worked at all, but none made me drowsy, even when I was taking the valium.

I am trying to give this a chance, but it is making things worse.  I feel like I am running out of options.  I am married and have a 6 1/2 mo. old daughter (who happens to be teething), my husband is a great help and understands, but he gets frusterated at times too.

I have been averaging 15-20hrs of sleep a day.  It is horrible and I cannot stand it! Any advice would be great, I ran across this site searching for information.

Hello & welcome to the site

Usually it takes 3 to 4 weeks for a anti-depressant to have its full effect...you have been on it for a month now.

The feelings you describe are all to familliar to me, I have been there, and know that you are not alone in this situation, what I would suggest to you if I may is to go back in for a consultation with your Doctor, dont be shy to ask the questions you need answered, take care of your basic needs nutrition is a big factor same goes with exercise...I know you dont feel like it but it my view it would be beneficial, try to break that sleep cicle its not healthy.

This site is a great one for anyone who suffers from anxiety you can go ahead and address the experts by sending hem a private message THEY will respond guaranteed.

Prozac
Prozac is prescribed for the treatment of depression-that is, a continuing depression that interferes with daily functioning. The symptoms of major depression often include changes in appetite, sleep habits, and mind/body coordination; decreased sex drive; increased fatigue; feelings of guilt...
