Q: im trying to wean off of elavil. im down to half a pill which is 75mg. but what do i do now? cant sl

i have been on elavil for 10 years for headaches but i want off due to ibs problems but i cant sleep at night without it. i was on 150mg at bed. but i got myself down to 75mg but now im stuck. help

Hi Lucee,

 

Thank you for your question! Have you spoken to your doctor about the best way to discontinue this medication? Even if he or she doesn't agree that you should stop it, you are in ultimate control of what medications enter your body. Tell the doctor definitively that you are going to stop the medication and would like to know the best way to do so. Perhaps he or she would be willing to give you another medication to help you sleep, at least for a short period of time, so that you can stop taking the Elavil.
